Tin on a Wall is back and we’re looking for street champions for our November collection.

Winter can be an especially challenging time for foodbanks, many are running very low on supplies. With the reduction to Universal Credit and the increase in energy prices, we expect the need for their services to increase.

We will be collecting in Risca and Rogerstone on Saturday 13th November and need street champions who are able to leaflet their chosen street a few days before and then collect on 13th November from 12 midday, delivering the donations to The Centre @St. David’s by 3pm on the same day.

Are you able to spare a few hours and make this collection a huge success? Please comment on our Facebook page if you would like to take part and a member of the admin team will be in touch.

*Wattsville and Cwmfelinfach collections will take place on Wednesday 10th November.

RCV UK presents We-Grow.

Our aim is to engage the community in helping to look after Risca's green spaces.

During the past 18 months our green spaces have become more important than ever before. By using outdoor areas within our daily lives, we have seen benefits to both physical and mental health.

That's why RCV UK in partnership with other local organisations want to encourage more engagement with our green spaces. We aim to improve community engagement even further by involving CCBC, schools, colleges and other groups to improve responsibility, protect our green spaces and increase their use.

We will be maintaining the spaces with litter picks, planting, pruning and also schedule a variety of events, wellbeing walks, fun runs and social activities. There will be something for everyone.

Whether you’d like to be a part of the FORP committee, help with the manual side of things or just enjoy the events, follow us / get in touch with us through our Facebook page. More details to follow very soon.

RCV UK are working with Gwent Carers to become an accredited CARER FRIENDLY organisation.

Here's our Carer Friendly Commitment

We recognise that caring is an important issue that affects our staff, volunteers and clients. Our staff know about the issues carers may face and the local support available to them.

We will actively help people understand who carers are and the issues they may face.

We will assign Carers Champions to be a point of contact for carers within the organisation and allocate them time to fulfil this role.

We will ensure that all staff are responsible for providing good quality information and support to carers within our organisation.

We will consider carers when implementing policies and procedures throughout the service.

2nd August 2021

Tin on a Wall is back this August and we're just mixing up the way we do things slightly.

As we take tentative steps towards a more normal pre covid life it's important to remember that the poverty and hunger we have made it our mission to end in our community has not gone away. You may have seen recently that local food banks have almost completely run out of stock to send to families and people in desperate need. With Tin on a Wall collecting over 2.5 tons of food in one night we cannot under emphasise how important your donations are for your community.

This month we will be undertaking two collections:

Thursday 19th August from 6pm

Saturday 21st August from 10am

We are looking for champions for both of our collections. You can either volunteer for one or both collections - whatever will suit you. Comment on this post if you are interested in collecting this month and a member of the team will get back to you.

*There will be no collection in Cwmfelinfach or Wattsville this month but our champions will be back collecting in September there.

One of our favourite songs that resonates with our entire admin team at RCVUK is Fix you by Coldplay.

Every Thursday we take part in a Sign and Sing class. Last week our admin team recorded a special version of this song.

Remember you are not alone. Reach out if you need support.

Calling all young future volunteers!

We're looking for digital champions to assist with our upcoming project.

We believe no-one should be lonely in our community. Lockdown has really cut off the most vulnerable amongst us. We want to ensure that everyone can benefit from technology; whether that's staying connected on social media, completing your online food shop or even calling family members on video chats. We also want to raise awareness of internet safety and where information can be found.

If you or someone you know would be interested in joining our team - tag them below or message us for more information.

*Our digital project won't be launching until lockdown restrictions are lifted and it is safe to do so - more information to follow.

Thank you for another amazing collection!!!

We're always so overwhelmed with gratitude with our community after a TOAW collection. Over 2.5 tons of food collected which will make a massive difference to our charities. This month our charities are RCV Foodbank, St David’s Foodbank, Risca Foodbank, all creatures great and small, Pantside Foodbank and HCT homeless project.

This week has really made us see the important services food banks provide to families struggling financially at the moment. Everything you donate from a single tin of beans to a bigger care package is appreciated, needed and redistributed to those in need.

Thanks to our volunteers for giving up their Saturday mornings to collect an impressive haul! We hope you're resting up today - you can start strength training for next months collection tomorrow

2020 was a hard year for us all. As we begin this new year we're asking everyone to remember that we've all gone through a lot in the last few months and it's still ongoing for so many of us. Wherever you can, show kindness. We all need a little kindness right now.

If you or a relative is isolated at the moment - get in touch with us and see how we can spread some kindness to them this January.
